Thumbs up [RESOLVED] hard drive issues

i work for a county library system. because of the economic times, we are strapped for cash and must make our technology stretch as far as possible. we have a number of DELL and HP Compaq machines throughout the system. we have a couple of DELLs that have fried motherboards, but the hard drives still function. how can we get the DELL hard drives to boot and work if we install them in newer HP Compaq PCs? (and vise versa)

PS. If you are wanting to use the drive and the operating system on the drive from a Dell machine - no can do, unless its another Dell machine.

    hard drive issue cont'd

I want to use an already formatted/configured drive - don't want to lose any of the apps or data that is already on it - won't booting from the OS disk erase everything? Ghosting to non-like PCs does not work either.

I KNEW that was going to be the answer - just wondered if there were any tricks out there to accomplish the impossible. Thanks for your help anyway
