    External HD glitch

I have had a western digital 400gig external drive for some time now. And was wondering why is it when I want to access stuff on the PC do I have to wait for the external one to wake up and start, when the files are not on there? Is there a work around for this?

You mean that windows explorer lags when you try to open it?

did you make sure that system restore is disabled for the external drive? xp will put system restore info on external hds and some usb flash drives.

check that the indexing service is off. also remove indexing programs like google desktop.

You could also try an alternative file explorer like A43. I use that since you can have double panes. Makes it easy to drag and drop files from one partition/drive to another.

I am sure it it a setting where the HD powers down when not in use for x amount of time. Where you set it to never power down I do not know.
