hi
i am getting a lot of problems with a 1GB kingston pen drive
i just bought.i cannot transfer files to the pen drive ,most of the time
i get the following error message :
error copying file or folder
cannot copy "filename" : cannot find the specified file.
make sure you specify the correct path and file name
If by chance i successfully transferred a file ,next time i
reconnect my pen drive ,it's empty and all the files have disappeared.tried to transfer a 450mb file to the pen drive and in the process,it stops and it tells me that the destination drive cannot be found .
My second issue i often gets the follwoing message when i try to open
the pen drive :
The disk in drive J is not formatted.
Do you want to format it now?
when i click on yes , i get the following message:
windows was unable to complete the format.
this drive cannot be formatted.
This time also if i successfully formatted the pen drive ,i get the problems
mentionned above.
If I received those messages from a hard drive, I'd tell you to run the manufacturer's test utility, because it sounds like the drive is failing. But the other factor here I'd wonder about is if the drive is getting enough power from the motherboard through the usb port.
Can you try the drive in another computer, or through a powered usb hub?
Or can you borrow another flash drive to try in your computer?
i already have a 128mb kingston and a 256mb Twinmos pendrives and so far i have never encountered the problems mentionned above.as i already mentionned
the pen drive works without any fuss on the shopper's laptop.
I am assuming that it is the 1GB pen drive that works all right on the laptop?
I note that the machine with the issue does not have any XP service packs. Is there a reason for that? Does the machine that takes the pen drive satisfactorily have SP2?
