    PC cable hookup for NEC7170A DVD burner

    newbie here. I bought this external DVD burner from newegg and it is "oem" which means no cable or manual . There are 4 outlets on back of the machine. which one do I use to connect to my 3 year old Gateway Profile 5? There is no power outlet on the burner so i assume it doesn't require any. Thanks for the advice!

    This is an EXTERNAL burner, correct?

    If you click on the right image viewer it shows the back and gives some info.

    I realize for $30 you can't expect much. Should I return it and get a more complete burner?

    No.

    That is an internal DVD writer.

    EDIT: That's weird. I was not aware that NEC and Sony had merged their optical division???

    ok back it goes-my bad. My current internal PC burner won't burn DL discs so that is a primary requirement.

    Any thoughts on this external burner?

    Also, what is lightscribe?

    Basically, an external burner consists of an internal unit in an external IDE enclosure for a 5 1/4" device, incorporating a power supply and the usb or firewire interface from IDE input. Though some external units are made with nonstandard burners. I've taken a few apart recently.

    I went ahead and ordered the Samsung I posted the link for as I liked the firmware updates and the price was right $69 delivered (today). Thanks again for all the help-nice crowd here!
