Upgrading my Laptop Drive, Help Needed

    Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade laptops harddrive from the 5400rpm to 7200rpm. Anyone done this before? Any noticeable gains in performance on a Celeron 1.6M? I already got a quote from www.rescuetechusa.com that they will do it for $130.

    Thanks,
    George

Upgrading from 4200rpm to 5400 is a good idea, but I wouldn't pay that much to go from 5400 to 7200. I don't think the slight increase in speed is worth the cost, the heat, and the battery draw. In the end it's up to you.

From what I've encountered in laptops,
Realistic performance differences between a 5400 and 7200 rpm HDDs have been negligible.
    "I know nothing."
    Cheers.

the price of 7200rpm laptop drives just dont justify any performance increase if there was/is one anyway. i found the silent operation of a newer drive to be the real value when i went from a 40g to 80g, both 5400rpm
