Will an external HD work under Win98?

Thinking about getting a new PC. I've looked at 250GB external USB hard drives to transfer my files and then use as a backup but will those work under Win98 with USB 1.1? Looking at the boxes in Best Buy and the specs on Newegg, they all seem to require USB 2.0 and at least 98SE.

It's mostly a question of drivers for the USB. I think you have to have at least W98SE for USB support.

Keep in mind there is also an upper limit for 98SE of 137Gb for hard drive size. You may get around this with drive overlay software and two partitions though.

Reliable USB support was not available until Windows2000.

Even Windows98SE encountering issues with USB was not unheard of.
    "I know nothing."
    Cheers.
