    sli / ati's crossfire

    wut up..... i was wondering if anybody knows if you can take ati crossfire cards and use them on an sli ready motherboard? for some reason there arent many crossfire ready motherbaords out there and of course my luck is nobody makes one with my cpu socket. if anybody can answer this it would be a big help. i dont want to have to buy another cpu

    As far as I understand the answer is NO.

    You can use any single ATI / nVidia PCI-e / other vendor video card in ANY single slot PCI-e ready, dual PCI-e slot SLi or Crossfire motherboard. However, to run SLI you must have two nVidia cards in an nVidia chipset motherboard and for crossfire you must have 2 ATI cards (one master and one slave) in an ATI chipset motherboard.

    Current Main Rig:
    AMD FX55 @ 2.9 GHz
    2 GB PC 3200 DDR RAM
    ABIT KN8 SLi motherboard
    ATI X1900XT O/C to XTX speeds

    Retired Rig:
    AMD Athlon XP 2500+ Barton @ 2387 MHz. (217*11)
    512MB DDR RAM @ 436 MHz. (PC 3700)
    Abit AN7 motherboard
    BFG GeForce 6800GT OC!

    There are some Intel chipset boards that can do Crossfire.

    Bottomline is you need the proper chipset to support either SLI or Crossfire. There is nothing that supports both.

    Ok so..... can I run 2 ATI cards in Crossfire setup on an SLI mobo if the chip set is ATI

    NO. there is no such thing as an ATI SLI motherboard. Only Nvidia makes SLI boards. ATI and Intel have Crossfire boards.
