I want to buy a new PCI Express Graphics Card to go with my Athlon 64 X2 3800+ dual processor & my Crucial 2GB ddr kit plus my ASUS A8N-SLI Premium motherboard.
I'm looking to spend around £130.00 on one but i just don't what the fastest mid-range card to go for, i've tried looking on tons of web site for benchmarks, reviews etc but can't find any up to date tests on cards, maybe i'm not looking right, anyway i don't know wether to go for ATI or Geforce, the Geforce mid-range cards seem abit pricey, i just don't know which is the best for this price that's why i need your help.
I have a Sapphire X800GTO² 256mb GDDR3 PCI-E in my other pc but i don't know wether to get the same card or not but i just thought there maybe a better card out there. Any help would be great thanks
I think the question would be what games are you thinking about playing really?
If you don't buy enough card now then you will end up buying another one in 6 months or less so it's best to get what you really need now.
On the ATI side there really isn't a true mid range card in the X1000 lineup as there is a huge performace gap between the X1600 (NOT A GAMING CARD) and X1800 series cards. The X800/X850 cards are last generation. They are fast cards but you will want more than they can offer when playing new games.
Something like a X1800XL or maybe a X1800 GTO might fit your needs.
On the Nvidia side the 7800 (NOT THE GS) series would be OK, maybe even a 7600GT, but I wouldn't go lower than that for the above reasons playing newer games.
If I was buying a new Graphics card right now I wouldn't even think of buying anything below a X1800XL.
I have took in what you are saying, and i think maybe my best bit would be to go for the X1800 GTO but i am still kinda stuck as the online shop i buy all my pc parts from have the same card but there are 3 of them and i don't know what one to go for, please see links below.
I was thinking my best bet was to go for the Sapphire one as i've always used Sapphire cards when i bought cards before, is there any difference with the other brands? are they any better or worse than the Sapphire one.
This card will be used for gaming in my new pc, i will be playing games like BF2, COD2, HL2 etc.
Or there is the Geforce one, but i don't know if this is any better than the 3 above, this is the link below for it. XFX 7600GT XXX Edition
