Vehicle tax (registration) is 6monthly or yearly. Inspections (warrent of fitness) is every 6 months. No registration no warrant.

1 years rego is about NZ$213
Warrents vary but about are around NZ$45
No emmisions test just yet, it's coming though.

Diesel vehicles pay additional tax as per kilometers used.

In the UK the vehicle inspection is called the MoT (short for Ministry of Transport insepction). Only cars over 3 years old have to MoT'd , not that it's ever helped me as I've never had a car less than 4 years old.

Vehicle tax goes up every year, it's now about £192 (I think), if you have an engine between about 1.5 and 2.5 litres. Cars over 25 years old (or is it 30?) are exempt from this though. Again it's never helped me as I don't generally like old cars.

You haven't seen some of the old bombs people try to drive around NZ roads. Compulsory inspections aren't a bad idea at all IMO.

And Motorway Patrol is a cool TV show, even if only for the accents...

May every year mine needs MOT'd (because its over 3 years old) which means it has to also pass an emissions test.

£110 a year road tax and just under £2,000 a year for insurance if i go under my own name on it! £1,300 under my mums name with me on the insurance (if they take me off the insurance it costs just £150 a year for my mum and dad to insure it, insurance is such a rip off here) i pay more each year than what the cars worth!

oh yeah I agree completely, there are some real old crocks on the UK roads too.

Pretty scary when you also consider how many people are estimated to be driving with no insurance these days. I think that's why the number of hit-and-runs has increased so much here in recent years.

Tell me about it. I got hit and run on the way to work on Thursday (just a light bump, minor paint damage). Reported it to the police, and when we're all done I'm told that the other vehicle hasn't been registered in two years.

I bet your insurance company is going to love that.

I'm not going to bother getting it fixed unless the cops find the other driver. My insurance has a $250 excess, and it's only a couple of paint chips.

my car will fail emissions soon too when the cat bypass pipe goes on lol just need to swap it over at MOT time
