    hard disk problems

I have this hard disk(Maxtor) a 30.7 gb. The moment I upgraded ram on the motherboard some chip with a serial SH6770C(same serial # on my three harddisks) burnt up .
I interchanged the circuit board with the one for a 40gb harddisk, it does start but constantly cuts the power .
Does any one know what this chip does - if I removed it ,would a by pass be possible ?
All I need is to transfer some 12mbs of some project (hobby )I've been working on.

    thanks

Part looks to be a Motor Combo IC, so prolly not.

By the way, what does BTW stand for?

It is better to be tried by 12, than carried by 6.
