Well, with Christmas money in and b-day money upcoming, I was thinking about getting a PSP for myslef. Only problem is, I have never used one and don't know anyone who has one.
I have read the CNET reviews and stuff and they seem to like it, but I want to know is if any of you have guys/girls have used one, what do you think? Is it worth the money, or would it be better spent on say, upgrading other home electronics (bedroom TV, Computer)?
Any opinions would be appreciated!
Thanks
Wood

I don't think it's worth it. Mind you I have no reason to use portable gaming device but for the price, and the games (lack there of) I couldn't justify the purchase. It's a slick unit no doubt. As I like to argue your paying 300 Cdn bucks for a PS2, which can be had for half the cost. Watch standard DVD's on large screen TV. Only thing is missing is the portability, which again depends soley on you. I read the paper on the commute so unless I were to go on a long trip I'd probably en dup borrowing one from a friend.

Nintendo DS goes far in only games. PSP is almost a whole media center. Watch movies, surf the internet, game, many things. Oh yeah, it is also an MP3 player. I would wait to see if price drops and more games get on it.
I love the PSP - had one for a few months. Only got a couple of games for it, but recently bought GTA:LCS, and am now hooked. It is fantastic.
Basically, it really is a PS2 that you can hold in your hands - graphics wise/speed/gameplay.
Wireless internet on it is good too - bit too big for use as an MP3 player imo, but great as a video player if you get a big card. If you like the PS2, get one.

this is getting crazy if you think about it. are we going to have names for all this crap in the near future or is our 'companion' going to play all the games, music, movies, internet, phone, pda, and kitchen sink all in a handheld device? i mean all the psp needs is a phone. cell phones just need to play decent games . its not far off for either, i could see sony shrink it, put a phone in it, and put a big hurt on phone makers like lg, moto, nokia.
Also, the psp doesnt use standard dvd's right? so its really not an advantage to consider it as a reason to buy. i can watch dvd's on my cell phone from my memory card and it wont cost a thing
my mate got one a couple of months ago, played it for about 2 weeks then never picked it up untill christmas when he got GTA for it and hes never put it down since then (he only had tiger woods before that). he gave me a shot of it and its just GTA3 with different missions etc, but its so much more fun than it is on the PS2 for some reason! lol

Hmm. Well, I am not so sure about getting one now. I guess I would have to try one out for a while and see if I liked it. I would be using it mainly during my commute on the Bus and the train (all told, about an hour), mostly for games and maybe a little for movies. Thing is, I have been using the games on my phone for a while, but bejeweled is getting a little repetative! I don't know now. Maybe I will just blow it on the 73" DLP with built in TiVo that I saw in Maxim this month... hmmm... decisions decisions...

I wasn't too fussed till a) I had to watch this kid play on his and watch films while I was bored out of my skull on a 20 hour bus journey and b) my friend bought one and I got to use it. They are great!
Having said that, I'd never use it enough to justify the cost.

Yeah, justifying the cost was definitely something I was having a little trouble with. But, I guess when it's free, there really isn't much to justify!
