    Dell Latitude getting hot

Some of these lappys have fans that are on the bottom. Do these fans blow out from the bottom or what? Or do they suck air in?

Got a customer saying that his lappy is getting hot. Now on mine I use it on my kitchen table with a soft cloth place mat underneath it. Would this thing be not a wise thing to do because the fan is on the bottom whichever way is blows or sucks?

Because if there is cloth over the fan then circulation is not working at it's capacity?
    Thanks
    JB

Yeah, anytime you set a notebook on cloth, you're insulating the heat. Think of it as putting a blanket around it. It drives me mad when you see people using a notebook on a bed!

But ya know, the name suggests the thing goes on one's lap, and unless one is naked, what will the material be that's covering one's lap? Gonna be some kinda cloth.

    Yeah Joe I know.

But if the LAPtop is on ones lap the vents on the bottom will have enough room to pull in air. Laps are not flat.

Which is why I'm saying it's a stupid design. They came up with a design that's not at all suited for the product's intended use.

But if it used in your lap then it can breathe because the vents will be exposed to the air.

I use mine like that sometimes.

Actually, some notebooks get it right. They draw air from the sides and shoot it out the back. Smartest thing they ever did!

I have seen some of the newer ones using side vents.

Mine has a vent on the bottom though.

I have a Latitude D600 and I have the same problem with the heat. Its really just poor design, there's not a whole lot you can do about it. My system board actually burnt out on me and I had to have it replaced (thank goodness) since I used to use my LAPtop on my lap during class and such. It would at times burn my leg...
