BAH! It's all fluff...Damn paper launches

If you go to the ATI website they have this dedicated interactive website for advertising the X1k series vcards...

Nothing on the other tech sites I've seen so far. What a joke.

Only 3 cards are coming out right now... the x1800XL, x1300 Pro and x1300XT (I think those are the two x1300 cards). The other x1800 cards will follow 5 weeks from now and the x1600 cards come a 1-2 weeks after that.

The thing that bugs me is the CrossFire boards and cards. Those should have been out a long time ago.

Yeah, the folks at nVidia must be feeling really good right now. Though I guess it wasn't too long ago when they were the one's that were behind.

crossfire is dead already imo. not much reason seeing the substantial benifits of nv sli, even though sli isnt the greatest. crossfire just seems like a mess to set up, and i cant imagine its more profitable then say an established multicore video card line. not to mention the tech support theyre gonna need to handle for that crossfire

The thing I see is CrossFire was not made for the x800 and x850, but would likely work better on the x1800 cards. The x8X0 cards are restricted to 1600x1200 @60Hz, this is not great. The x1800 cxan do 2000x1500 @70Hz. That is a huge jump.

As for paper launch AKABA has some retail cards being distributed in Japan already, so the cards look to hit the schedual of the 12th like ATI said. This is for the x1800XL and x1300 cards and the x1800XT will follow a month later and the x1600 a few weeks after that. Check it out here:

Anand Tech has a follow up and it looks a bit better. At 1600x1200 the cards are pretty cclose, but when you crank up the FSAA to 4x, the x1800XT takes only a small performance hit (likely do to the smaking fast memory). The XL performs much slower though.

To back up the avalaubility on these that this is not really a paper launch, Akaba has the MSI Radeon x1300 Pro too:

Also NewEgg has the x1800XL 256MB in stock for $475 right now. That is $25 over retail, but not bad. It is an built by ATI one. That is not too bad I would say... only 2 days after the launch for avaluability:

FEAR looks good, but I'm not sure if I will get it or not. Amazon is pre-ordering it and it should be out on the 18th. I have that ad up too on my site.

Now their CrossFire boards and master cards are another story. Those are all MIA.

It depends on the game really, but I think the GeForce 7800GT has the edge and draws less power. With this current stepping it also does not overclock well. The Radeon x1800XT is only $50 more ($100 if you want 512MB of memory), but will not be out for another month. This card will overclock quite well as some cores supposadly can do 700-750Mhz and the memory is rated for 1600MHz. You would be lucky to hit 550Mhz on these current XL cores, but the memory likely would hit 1100-1200. The memory will help more with 4xAA turned on.

So it looks like the x1800XL and x1300 cards have come out like they said they would, but those CrossFire cards and motherboards have not shown up yet. Nobody has them and even OEMs are not getting production samples for system designing. ATI has also not actualy specified when they will come out. This is really bad. I want a CF motherboard now. I might get an x800 CF master card too as it looks like I am going to get my transfer at work and it will include a raise. I'm finally moving up in the company after over 9 years. I should be averaging over $100 a week more. I think a new CF board, X2 3800+, and x800CF are in store for me.

NewEgg is listing some stuff for CrossFire now. They have the x850CF for $449, but not the x800, which should be $299. They also list a DFI CrossFire board (looks like a LAN part edition), but it is $239 and the link just goes to DFI boards and no CF board is there. It is a good sign though and hopefully one from Abit or ASUS will be avaluable soon.

The cool thing is I am registering (having trouble as the registration form does not list HIS and the card only has a S/N and no UPC) with ATI to get $100 off a CrossFire edition card if I buy one before November 30th. The x800CF is only $299, so that woul;d make it only $199. That would be cool. I just need a CF card and motherboard available before then.
