I should order a MB right. Which one is the one I need..I hope 300 can buy atleast mb and case...
ive not worked on a modern HP machine so dont know if they use standard PSU's and cases.
but you will defo want a new motherboard and likely a new case and PSU.
you didnt say where about you are so 300 could mean anything, i'll assume its USD so thats about £160, which is enough for a top motherboard, case and PSU

OK since this makes little sense, lets go step by step:
Do you have HP, is there a reason why you dont want to use any parts from it and if you do want to use some parts of it tell us what those are (check the posts above)?
What exactly do you have allready, apart from HP, 6800Ultra, yes/no, anything else?
What is your exact budget for everything which is missing?
Example, if you only have 6800Ultra and dont wanna use HP, then you will need:
case
power supply
hard disk
motherboard (assuming network and sound card are onboard)
CPU + heatsink and fan
ram
CD or DVD recorder
keyboard
mouse
monitor LCD/CRT

BTW next time its better to post a new message, most people will miss it, if you only edit the old one.
- OK so you have 1GB of ram - what type is it, what does the sticker say?
- You are saying you have the case, what type, can you post a picture
- Is the power supply in there what does the sticker say?
- You do have 6800Ultra AGP then
Apart from the motherboard (again assuming you get one with NIC and sound card, which is almost a given nowdays) and CPU + HSF for which you have $500 budget, you will need:
- hard disk, if all you need is to install OS and games, something like WD 80GB 7200rpm will do just fine
- some sort of CD/DVD unit, prefarably DVD recorder, Id go with LG
- keyboard, whatever suits you really (make it PS/2 though)
- mouse, for gaming something like Logitech MX310 would be a good choice (wireless mouse is not best suited for gaming)
- monitor, Id go with LCD (mainly for the sake of your eyes), something from LG or Samsung
- OS (WinXp Home for example)
You still have to tell us, do you have the monitor, because the rest could possibly go into the $500 budget, but you would be hard pressed to get monitor for that amount as well.
Then we can give you the more exact list of parts to get.
ok hear it is i went on a shopping spree. I got asus mb(A8N SLI PREMIUM NFORCE 939) what do u think? then I got (500w PS) (MAXTOR 160 HD)(ATX MID CASE)(TOSHIBA 16XDUAL LAYER DVD +/-RW)(bfg 7800 ULTRA PCI EX VID)(US MODULAR 1024MB)I ORIGINALLY HAD ORDERED AN AGP CARD BUT I SENT IT BACK. (20.1" LCD WIDE SCREEN FROM DELL)( MICROSOFT WIRELESS MOUSE/KEYBOARD) Im goin to order my processor in about to weeks. Im gettin (AMD ATHLON 64x2 4400 cache 2mb). what else do I need am I missing something? I am new at this building thing....this system will be used for Gaming mostly.
Well what would make sense is get some advice before hand, so that for example you dont get AGP card with PCIe mobo.
Not that you are the only one around here who has done that.
Then is the question of PSU, it would be real shame if you got some no name PSU with this system.
BFG is OK.
Toshiba is bad choice IMO.
Maxtor OK, but I prefer WD or Segate for realibility.
Dont know if that US modular is ram, but you definitely wouldnt want to go with only 1 stick of ram with S939 system. Also its important to get good quality ram and preferably 2GB of it before spending way to much on CPU.
Depending on the model that Dell 20" could be a really good choice.
