for example i still have a 3.5 disk drive, and it still works pretty good. (since 1996) (almost 10 years).
Same thing here, I have a floppy drive in my second system that I ripped from a 1994 machine (486 33MHz). It replaced a POS 1999 drive that wouldn't read half the disks and was slow as hell.
Funny that the older floppy drive (at least in my case) was way faster, sturdy and reliable than the newer one... floppies were pretty critical back then so I guess it's probably why.

I still have a 5 1/4 inch floppy drive! I'm holding onto it because it works, and I have loads of 5 1/4 disks with old stuff on them (Including Windows 3.0 discs) If I ditched the drive, I wouldn't be able to read them if I wanted to.
Plus I have a nice box of brand new disks that I bought a few years ago, must get around to using them sometime.
Funny with the 3.5" floppy drives, I had one that just got passed from pc to pc and was never replaced. those things never go out of date though! No longer have it though, don't use them any more. I don't even have the technology to read a 3.5" floppy disk now.... If I wanted to do that I'd have to borrow my dads pc!

I have done major cleaning recently with everything going to local Ebay and friends.
So apart from two 8.4GB IBM drives that are still going strong and 5 1/4 floppy somewhere in the storage, it has to be the case for the machine in the sig.
It has really nice chrom finish and still looks great after moving it couple of times.
My 3.5" floppy is actually almost new, bought one in black color, to match the case, plus it was cheaper then a can of car paint
Oh and the old LG 32x 8MB CD-RW drive in the work-only machine, is still performing flawlessly.
well i had a samsung floppy that died so went without a floppy drive in my main machine for about a year then i needed one for sata etc so i bought 1, plus there was a tray of old floppy disks at school in the cupboard and i couldnt help but take a few! ok 15-20
