    Movie Subtitles

    Disclaimer:

If a mod locks this thread, this will be the end of my membership. The information I'm about to give out is in no way in violation of the AUP and any mod who thinks so should be evaluated for competency.

If you're looking for movie subtitles, there is a free database that you can access from within Windows Media Player Classic- which is a free video player with the look/feel of the old Windows Media Player.

By the way, what does BTW stand for?

It is better to be tried by 12, than carried by 6.

It wasn't aimed strictly at you. What I've noticed since the inception of this forum is an overall tightening of the moderation at HWC. HWC isn't a Catholic school cafeteria that needs to be kept in line with ruler snaps to the fingers. People have been so happy to see a sterilized OT forum that they don't notice the walls tightening around them.

First the mod makes tons of posts about how to slipstream your WinXP with SP2 and make your own XP cd, then the mod closes any tread about installing Windows with a burned cd. No question, just lock the tread ! Twice in a row this week. How double standard is that ?

If referring to Help installing 2000 server thread,
I agree with jankerson's decision to lock the thread.

    Slipstreaming process = legal.
Burnt CD in situation described = illegal.
    "I know nothing."
    Cheers.

    BTW,
If I am incorrect about the slipstreaming process being legal,
    Let me know,
Will remove threads referring to such process.

    Cheers.

Also refering to "New PC cant load windows 98se" tread and guess you agree with own decision to lock tread.
+Slipstreaming process generally ends in burnt cd, whatever the situation. But this is just a point of view. But so obvious.

Don't blame the mods, guys: Jupitermedia's policy, enforced by Jupitermedia's hypersensitive lawyers, is that any thread that discusses or implies or could be seen as facilitating warez or piracy will be closed, and mods are requested to err on the side of closure in any unclear case. As for the claim that otherwise or on other topics the forum's gotten more restrictive in some sort of trade for the Central Lounge trial, I don't see it and we don't intend it.

    Thanks for reading,
    Eric

I really had no choice but to close the thread, I did ask if they had the Orginal CD (Win2k Server) and I didn't get the response that I should have.

I have to follow the AUP in cases like these and lock the threads.

While copying a CD is legal (for backup purposes) it's illegal to install more than one copy of the application in question, (1 user per license) the idea behind slipstreaming is to make any reinstallation that you have to do, less hassle free (as it is includes all the updates), since you're only installing a piece of software once its irrelevant what the format of the media that your installing from is.

I now copy every CD I buy, and then run any installations from the backup. (I managed to scratch a CD to the point where the application would no longer install)

If you do install from a burnt CD, make sure you don't install the application on to more than one system; so long as you do this you won’t be breaking any copyright laws .
Oh dear God! A powersurge destroyed my desktop
