geforce 6600 gt - core at 300 or 500?

i have been noticing something strange with this card. when running 3dmark 01, 03, and 05, in "system details" it sometimes shows the core clock speed of the card at 300, instead of 500. powerstrip always shows the core speed at 500, though an MSI utility always shows it at 300??????

I only have 7 days to test the card before it can no longer be returned to the store, so i want to make sure it is working right. i made sure the 4 pin power connector is hooked securely onto the card, with nothing else on that line. (i read that if no power connnector is on the card, it is automatically clocked down to 300)

Is it possible that the card is clocked down after a while when it is just in 2d mode? Can anyone suggest a prog that will for sure tell me what the core and memory speeds of the card are?

i used riva tuner, it confirms it is going up to 500 in 3d mode. thanks for the advice, gives me some peace of mind.
