    Thumbs down Half Life 2

I'm sure this has been posted before but I just have to vent a little. I've been buying games and installing on my pc's for nearly 17 years and this crap that Valve is making me go through to even start the game to begin configuring let alone playing it is unbelievable.

The software STEAM that came on the CD's was faulty, I had to go to their web site read through pages of info to find what to delete and what to re-install. I looks like in may really be decrypting the game files like it says but even with a fast connection and a way above average pc this is painful.

If this is the wave of the future, I may park my board and not ride.
I have bought a lot of software and games and this process is by far the absolute worst.

OK, I'll try to be patient with it, my generation was/is in great fear of (1984) Big Brother.

The game itself is worth the pain however, this as a significant advancement in graphics. I'm only in the first few level but some pretty amazing stuff. The old playground - when I push the rope swing the physics were right on. Barney was so lifelike.

nope not comcast. i have a local cable service provider that really doesnt know how to limit bandwidth to its users...i pay $55 a month for 4mb but it actually runs around 7 or 8mb,. i really hope they stay dumb to this.

Until recently the PC gaming industry had been in decline for several years on the bounce. Of course this is down to many factors, but one that the publishers blame is piracy.

Don't get me wrong - I agree that Steam is a pain, but if it means that Valve recoup more money to develop more games of the calibre of HL2, then it is surely a small price to pay.

We better get used to it anyway, as several other firms have said that they're going to create similar proprietary clients to reduce levels of piracy.

I understand the industry wanting to cut back on piracy. Way back, even I disk copied a couple of floppies. Games were usually about $29-35 buck in the early 90's. That was a big piece of change. Now I just bought HL2 for $39.95 - dollar for dollar thats a steal in itself. Many hours of enjoyment for a vey cheap per hour cost. Too bad so many other must now see it that way drivng developers to spend big bucks on software like Steam/ Think of the talent they used for that alone, of course that created many more jobs and I'm all for that - hopefully some are American.
