another problem has come, i put a new heatsink on my 9800xt (glacialtech northpole 1000) and wen it goes to the loading screen for windows XP the screen has a bunch of blue sqaures all over it, then it goes to the start screen and all my icons have, lil lines threw them, i have taken out the heatsink twice, checked for scratches, maked sure evreythin was mounted properly, the thermal gel wasn't on anywhere it shouldn't be, put it back in and made sure it was in, it still did it.

Then i put the original heatsink back on just incase sumthin on the one i bought was interfearing, and it STILL did it again, i have no idea wut the problem is and wut it has to do wit, ne suggestions to wut this could be?

you might want to check out THIS thread.

you could try underclocking the card and see if that helps.

i think you have damaged somthing.

lol i not gunna start flashin my card or ne thing. how does changing a heatsink suddenly mean the card needs more voltage and needs to be flashed and everything, i already tried new drivers and that was no use, and i switched back to orignal heatsink again and same thing, i never touched ne settings on the card

well when you were changing the heatsink you must have damaged the card. does it do it from a cold start?

try touching the heatsink, can you keep your finger on it for 5 - 10 seconds or is it too hot?

no its not that hot,i can keep my hand on there for awhile, and wut could have been damaged by replacing a heatsink, i help the card up to the light and checked for ne marks and there wasn't 1 mark on it

well im thinking it could be static damage or somthing, could be to a pipeline or ram chip or somthing.

wouldn't static damage take out the whole card no just make my icons and start up screen go wierd? like wne i go toa website page its perfectly fine

ahh so its not doing it all the time, then im thinking it could be a windows problem.

have you tried games?

no it does the same thing all the time, but it dun mess up my screen wen i get to the dkestop, just my icons have little lines going threw them, the rest of my screen is fine. there r no squares or dots on it

and also wen i go to control panel, the icons there, sum actually dissapear if u click on them then come back again if u put ur mouse on it
