Myst4 the heavyweight

I've played the Myst1-3 with my partner over the last year or two and have just purchased Myst4.

We played 1-3 on her laptop which is a 1.8 Celery stick with an ATi accelerator and 20GB HDD. There isn't even enough space to install the game! it weighs in at12.5GB installation. I thought Yager was big at 4GB. Even on my machine I'm going to have to do some serious bulldozing to get that much space available (also since I've just downloaded HL2 at over 4GB on 56k).

Oh how times changed.

FYI min specs are:

700Mhz PIII or AMD
128MB for Win9X 256 for XP
32MB DX9 compliant videocard
DX9
1.4GB free (although the box says 3GB)

I'll take that as: ' I tried to play Myst but the mind bending puzzles and thought required to solve them exceded my meager mind. Strangely, after attempting to read the opening book, blood started to leak from my ears. I put this down to overworking of an underused part of my brain.'

That is a rather MASSIVE installation. It'd make sense if they released it on a 2 DVD set or something instead.

I'm assuming 3GB slack space. Maybe it also needs a large paging file.

I have not installed it yet (have to wait for better half to get back from of of town)

I suspect that's the difference between playing from the DVDs (3 GB on the hard drive) and playing from the hard drive (all 12 GB, if they allow it).

Ok I just did the install. There is a minimum installation option - I must have double clicked through it.

The Myst series is great. I love how challenging the games are, and the satisfaction from completing one puzzle is the best part. I find myself droning in mindless fps games nowadays, but perhaps I'll have to look into this one. How's the gameplay and graphics?
