USB drive not showing up

Whenever I stick a USB drive into any of the PCs at work, it is detected and the little "remove USB devices" icon shows up in the corner, but the drive doesn't show in My Computer.

However, the same device will work properly on my home computer. Both are running WinXP SP1.

Any ideas? Thanks.

i have the same problem here at work. i have to go into the disk management tool (we run winxp pro) and assign drive b (it is usually open) to the thumb drive. you can also map the thumb drive to a folder on one of your drives (better to do it to your local drive though).

it have to do with the way that the network o/s assign drive letters and/or the availability of drive letters.

Yup, disk managment showed that the drive was being assigned the letter E, but E is the letter of our network drive. So I've got to go around and manually change it on all these computers?

you should be able to write a script to map/change the drive letter assignment for the thumb drive.

Boy, that's pretty lame. Windows should see that drive E is taken, and just go to F.
