Well, I bought a 947-U and a Thermaltake 80mm Fan w/ Cool Mod 2, but it just isn't cutting the mustard. I have reseated it and redone the AS3, but my idle temps are still at around 47C. The CPU is running at stock voltage and speeds on an IS7-E Board.
Since I just bought an ABIT IC7_MAX3, I really want too overclock this puppy as much as possible and I don't think my current cooling solution works. For those of you who want too suggest watercooling, let me just say that the hardware I have is not worth risking on a first time watercooling project.
One that I have seen used frequently is the Zalman 7000... (not sure the exact model name). Does anyone have any experience with this cooler? Are there better options out there? Any help would be great.

What thermal paste are you using on the heatsink? do you have any case fans? if not you really should have at least one extractor fan. whats your room temps at?

I am using a dab of Arctic Silver 3(AS3) and I have one 120mm intake fan at the front and a one 120mm exhaust fan right next too the CPU. The case temps never get above 35C and the room temps are about 60F (not sure of Celsius equivolent).

the heatsink that you have is a monster already...it's better than anything zalman has to offer...they specialize in low noise, not performance...
did you use arctic silver or the white goo that usually comes included? the former is obviously better...also it takes time for the thermal paste to achieve maximum conductivity...sometimes up to a couple days...i remember when i installed my heatsink, i get temps in the high 50's under load...but now, i barely hit 50 deg...
if you're sure you installed the heatsink properly, than you should look at lowering overall case temps...dremel out those restrictive fan grills...that helps a lot...

The IS7/IC7 boards report a core temp about 10c over what it actually is. Your temps are fine. You shouldn't go by temps. Your fingers (touch the heatsink) and Prime95 are far better indicators.
Yeah, I know it is working. Actually, after the last reseating, I had forgot too plug it back in and the computer kept restarting. So I know that it is plugged in this time.

Something doesn't seem right here. Is the fan running at full speed? That fan should push 75 CFM at 4800rpm (acording to their specs) Plus you have a monster of a heatsink on there, with good case temps.

If that is the case, then I can't wait too get the new board thrown in there. Throw in some PC3700 RAM and see what happens!!

Can't they do a BIOS Update or something too correct the problem? That seems like a mildly serious issue, especially since ABIT is pretty nutorious(sp?) for quality overclocking boards. And since temps are pretty important when oc'ing, it would seem like a logical thing too fix.

I'm curious to know that if his board is reading 10C over what it should be, then won't any software he runs to detect the temperature use the same sensor and thus show no different results? How about an NF7-S? Do they have the same temp problem as well?

YEah, so this weekend, I changed over too the IC7-MAX3 I had bought and now the temp readings max out at 41C! That rotten IS7 board kept from OC'ing at all. I can't wait too see what I can get out of this chip right now. Unfortunately, I may be in for some new RAM, having 2x256 PC3500 Corsair and 2x512 PC2700 of Crucial in there at the moment. I am not sure how far that Crucial will take me, but I guess there is only one way too find out!

My main system is like that. I have an MSI K7N2Delta-L and it would say the core was 57-63'C, but the socket temps were 45-50'C. This was with two differant heatsinks and AS2. The second heatsink is an SK-7. Well I now have that same chip iun an Abit NF7 and a GlobalWin FOP32-1 heatsink mod'd with a medium RPM 80mm fan. This is a solid aluminum heatsink with no copper, not even an insert. My temps are only about 35-40'C at the same speeds and voltages. My current AtlonXP-M 2500+ at 2.125Ghz and 1.65v is about the same temp. It is sitting at 58'C while I type. Those are pretty good temps for an aluminum heatsink and an AthlonXP 1800+ (rev A) at 1.833Ghz and 1.65v.
