Question MSI Mega PC & Hercules 9800xt

    Hi

I am thinking of getting an MSI Mega 180 system - looks a bit like a shuttle XPC but has a HiFi display at the front - which I quite like.

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal...barebones.html

The power supply is 200w and I intend to use it as a gaming PC and server (dual boot). The MSI Mega 180 PC has an AGP x8 port slot and a PCI slot. I don't play games very often (but I have to have a decent system for FarCry!!!) so most of the time it will be up and running as my home server (I will not be turning it off very often)

Other stuff that will be installed:
    - 250 GB ATA133 disk
    - Athlon XP 2800+ CPU
    - single 1 GB DIMM PC 2700
    - DVD Drive

My question is: if I install my new Hercules ATI 9800xt card (256 MB DDR) on the AGP slot and a Prodigy Sound card, I am running the risk of overheating / other issues?

Is there any extra stuff I can install to ensure that the system doesn't overheat / blow up...

Any input will be much appreciated.

    thx

    DK

    Welcome to HWC

I think you can get 300W PSU for that system, but have no idea where, someone might know though

also I would sacrifice sound card (maybe get an external audio from creative ) and get a cooler similar to mine: ARCTIC COOLING VGA Silencer , so all the hot air from graphics card gets pushed outside (you will have to check if it fits, though)

you will probably have to get a new Power supply for that even my 320Watt PSU in this system is gettin stressed.

I think you should be OK, I am running a 9800 Pro overclocked in a cramped mATX case with toasty 2400+ CPU on a 200W PSU with only the PSU fan venting the tropical breeze. It works fine. I don't know what the difference is with tiny PSUs compared to ATX ones but I'm sure a 200W ATX PSU would noramlly be struggling. Shuttles and other small systems DO seem to cope alright on 200W though.

thats a think i was wondering too, my 230Watt PSU was maxed out with a Duron overclocked, 5400RPM hard drive and a Geforce 256 but Shuttle PSU's seem to handle Overclocked Athlon XP's, 9800's and 7200RPM HDD's

Man, its been a while since we last had a chat! When'd you get your 9800P, and what's it running at? Are you pleased? Is it the video mecca that you anticipated it would be?
