    best budget case

im looking for a new case but dont want to spend much over £60 -£80 maximum.

ive seen a couple that i like on EBUYER

Chieftec Dx-01 Dragon Green Atx Case No PSU

Antec Super Lanboy ATX Case With 2x120mm Fans and No PSU

Antec Plusview 1000 4x5.25 5x3.5 ATX Tower Case with Side Window

the chieftec im having doubts about because it doesnt have a window and i love the window on my V770. i really like the Super lan boy. anyone got one? the antec is on alough i dont think hhe picture does it justice, i think it could be a better looking case when your looking at it personally. anone got one that i could see a picture of?

well ive read that other thread (i can acctualy remember reading that) and i still cant decide. i like the plus view because of the side window and it is the same as the cheiftec but without the colour, (i could always paint) but that super lan boy just has somthing about it. but the plusview and dragon also have that fan bay at the graphics card which i think is good.

im thinking the plusview or the lanboy.

    or

lanboy even has a built in toolbox lol

Personally, I would go with the LANboy as the 2x120mm fans are ideal. You can get a very quiet case from running a couple of 120's at a slow speed and they still will move a ton-o-air. The Dragon cases, which I have had several, are very nice, but loud when all 4 areas for 80mm fans are used. They can be made quiet if you want to play with different fans / voltages or use a fanbus, but the 120's are better IMHO....

Plus, I prefer the looks of the LANboy if I were to add lights and a frosted decal to the window... but that is personal preference!

Also, the LANboy HDD mounts are better designed than the others. Really nice for switching / adding / changing (especially if you want to run RAID).

well that super lanboy is one nice case but is it acctualy designed as a desktop case or just a light case for lans?

i run all my fans at 7V anyway.

im trying to compair that lanboy to my v770 here and it looks smaller which is not a good thing as my v770 has no room to work as it is because of the A7N8X Deluxe being a BIG motherboard.

im leaning towards the antec plusview but only because of its size the lanboy is too small but that plusview is nothing like the lanboy looks wise.

You are correct, the LANboy is a bit smaller, but the arrangement is nice. You can work with it if needed, and it is roomy enough to get the job done. But..... if the size is the main key for your choice, the Plusview is better. That is why I chose them in the past (but I am moving towards smaller.... ie: Shuttle) and still have my server in a similar one. Try to get one without the fan mount as it is a pain. I am running this model, aluminum, and without a side fan:

Running wiring to the fan, unhooking it when you get into the case, and the plastic "snaps" that hold the fan stick out a lot.... it's just kind of a pain to deal with IMHO.

You can always leave the fan out and run without it. It looks cool with lights even without a fan...

Colors that I have seen are as follows:

    Silver
    Red
    Green
    Purple
    Blue
    Yellow
    Black

Might be worth shipping if you find a color you really want. I wanted the Blue w/window aluminum version so I paid shipping. Tricked it out with Red cold cathode and blue LED fans.

If its worth anything, I love my black Plusview case. It's the same as the above pictures but without the side fan as well (personally seems like a pain because you have to disconnect it if you want to take the whole door off). It's sleek, spacious and the window is huge.

i think i will go with the plusview it was a case that I looked at when buying my V770 but decided i couldnt afford it, but i think id rather save more and gett a better case, like the plusview. i think ill get black to go with my speakers and keyboard and im going to get a black TFT in the future.

and i think ill stick to my usual bluy cathode and fans. mabee green tho.

what colour you think i should do the inside?

Hands down, BLUE! I've got dual cold cathodes (as you know the flickering ones) along with two blue led fans and it looks very nice. Casts this beautiful blue luminescence (sp?) on my wall at night. Its like a night-light for computer geeks. Of course you'd get this effect with any color, it's just that blue is my favorite and I can't help but suggest it.

My blother got the Antec AMG Plusveiw case and it is a pretty amazing thing. He has a UV cold cathode and green UV fan with blue LED for the back back case fans and an orange UV fan with red LEDs on the CPU and blow hole. It looks pretty cool even in good lighting. I have not seen it in the dark. He braught it to my last LAN party on Sunday (yesterday). It is a heavy beast at about 65 pounds. He has an Antec True Blue 430w power supply, 2 120GB hard drives in RAID 1, GigaByte nForce2 board (black PCB), 1GB DDR, AthlonXP 2700+, DVD +/- recorder, DVD drive, 19" monitor, 5.1 suround speekers, SLK-900 heatsink... Its pretty mighty. He turned out getting a deal on a used Radeon 9600 (non-pro) for $20 and is going to use that until the R-420 core comes out (he almost got a Radeon 9800XT off an E-bay auction, but the guy screwed up the order and he eventually gave up and cancelled the order after wasting almost a month with a computer missing a graphics card). If he had gotten the Radeon 9800XT, he would have been able to smoke my system. As it is I have the fastest in my family still.

Of course one of my other brothers has a laptop with a P4 3.06Ghz and a Radeon 9700 (really just a Radeon 9600XT for the mobile market) that does pretty good. Still cant take my system on with its true Radeon 9700Pro.
