Laptop Cooling

Hey Everyone,

I just have a quick question about laptops and cooling fans. I purchased my laptop a few months ago, a Compaq Presario 2500, and my only complaint so far has been that the cooling fan is incredibly loud, (louder than the average laptop fan) and it never stops going. I have seen several laptops that have the fan turn on and off periodically... is there a way I can do this or is something wrong with my CPU or some other problem I am causing? If anyone has any ideas, please help me out. Thanks a bunch!

Have you called Compaq yet. My VPR Matrix 220A only runs the fan when it is under pretty heavy load. It has a 2.2Ghz P4-M, but normally only clocks at 1.2Ghz and leaves the fan off. It runs DVDs at 1.8Ghz and keeps the fan very quiet. At 2.2Ghz the fan cranks up, but still it is pretty quiet.

I have not contacted Compaq.... I first wanted to see if this problem is common with this model, or if there is some way I can alter the fan settings. From your response, any my small experience with laptops, the fans are running more often than should be. Thanks!

I had a similar experience with a Dell Latitude C400. Its two little fans would always be on and got annoying. A BIOS update resolved that and now it only comes on when the laptop starts getting warm.
