Just need to confirm some stuff:
Current specs
Barton 2500+
Asus A7V600
Vantec Aero HSF using paste that came with it
The temps on default (11x166) at 1.65v = 50c
The temps on oc (11x200) at 1.65v = 53c
These temps recorded during CD burning/Winamp/Photo editing/software installation/MS Office etc.
Are the temps ok? It is running very stable at oc speed. I am using the Asus Probe (latest version) is it accurate?
Is there any other software for temp monitoring that's more accurate?
Glad to hear that. Was running std hsf and the temps was 60c+. When I changed the hsf found that the vendor actually stuck a piece of sticker (date puchase) under the cpu ... ummm don't think that's a good idea
So far I'm extremely happy with my barton 2500+, just tweak the bios and wal la, a 3200+. Don't even need to unlock/add voltage etc. Haven't got to pushing it further.
My tbird 1700+@2450@1.85v idles at 33-35, and hits about 43-45 on full load, but my case is the same temp as the air outside with the air I push through it.
That's within spec, but IMHO they shouldn't be that hot.

Room temp probably 25c to 30c (depends how fast my aircon cool the room) - I'm in Malaysia which is quite hot and I always run the system with the aircon on. I have tried to add another case fan infront but doesn't seems to help much.
some boards report very different temps then others.. even different bioses on the same board can report differently..
my suggestion.. is that if it's 100% at the most intensive situations for a long period of time then the temp doesn't matter "that" much..
now obviously if you touch the heatsink and it burns you.. then ya.. you can probably improve apon that..
my system is running at ~44C under constant SETI@HOME load.. creeps up to 46C when prime95 is going.. and the base of my heatsink is warm to the touch.. i also have good case cooling.. to keep my ambient temps as low as possible..
word of caution about those Vantec Aeroflow (VA4-C7040) fans.. they're cool.. they're sweet.. just make sure it's running at full speed.. if you notice the fan speed going down.. send it back.. or attempt to repair it yourself..
a buddy of mines crapped out on him and his CPU ended up frying.. the funny thing was.. was that he had to spin the fan with his finger to get it going somedays.. well once i opened the fan up i found one of the wires was not making a very good contact.. so we whipped out the soldering iron and fixed it.. my buddy got a new heatsink/fan... but i believe the fan is still running in someones system still..

NewBlackDak - are the Tbird 1700+ that good at overclocking would it be worth trying to get my self one to replace my 1600+ Palomino?
Shuttle System l Intel Core2Extreme l 8GB Ram l 64GB OCZ SSD l Windows 7 Ultimate X64
IBM ThinkPad T60 l 2GHz Core2Duo l 4GB Ram l 60GB Kingston SSD l Windows 7 Ultimate X64
yes they are "that" good at overclocking.. all of AMD's line up is actually..
these 1700+'s run at 1.5v by default.. there are 1800+ and i think 1900+'s that do too..
i upgraded from a 1700+ Palomino on a SDRAM board to what i have now.. and i got a huge increase in performace.. mainly due to the memory.. but the CPU helped out i'm sure.
the highest i had my chip at was 2380 with 1.7v.. 100% stable.. more voltage didn't improve anything.. although i only tried up to 1.75v.. i guess i could try higher.. but i worry about heat.. which is why i'm only at 2270, 1.6v instead.

The other one I have does 2200 at 1.6v, but won't do 1MHZ more no matter how much v you pump into it. I was running it, and just bought the second on [H]ard forum for $30 just to have a second system. It ended up being a DUTC3 while the that first on was a DLT3C. I sold the A7N-266, and bought an NF7-S v2 to see what it would do.
Edited, cause I need to learn to type.

Yeah, that also crossed my mind. Is the Asus Probe & Bios reading correctly? Anyway I am most happy cos I've got my barton 2500+ to run at 3200+ by just a flick of a bios & the $$$ i've saved makes this cpu a real kickass! Although I don't use all the cpu power most of the time but it's such a good feeling to know that you have saved so much $$$ ... it's like buying a low end civic and flick a swith you get a type r!
i like these bios's because it just says what to select from: 2500+ or 3200+? you just select what one you want, and she works perfectly... kinda took out the fun in overclocking though- but i think its a big market gain for amd- hell the idiots can pay more for a 2600+ while the smaller core consumers are still THRILLED by amd's offerings, best fo both worlds.
And AMDNut- have you tried the stock cooler? mine barely ever breaks 49c! i just recieved my slk-900a and 92mm Panaflo , we'll see soon what that does to it
