Question regarding the installation of my gfx card
As you all know, I'm not much of a hardware guy.
Anyways, I just installed my ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, and it had two powercables attached. I just installed the one of them, and it seems to work just fine.
I think it was the power for the cooler - what's the other one for?
Probably onecable was for the fan and the other for extra power supply, since the new cards are quite "hungry" in terms of power and the power supplied by the AGP slot isn't enough. So the second cable i suppose is the one to be connected to the power supply.
It's just in case you dont have a spare power lead from your power supply unit. You just unplug a power lead from a cdrom or hard drive, plug one end of the vid cards power cable into the power supply unit lead and the other end plugs back into the cdrom or hard drive. If you do have an unused plug fron the psu, just use it and dont worry about the other end.BTW one should be male...the other a female plug.
