    USB Hard Drive recommendation?

I'm thinking about buying a 120GB Hard Drive. I'm thinking about buying a USB drive rather than another internal drive. I thought it might be nice and portable. According to NewEgg.com, the price difference is about $20.

    Here's my questions:

    1. Do these work pretty well?
    2. Are they fast enough?
    3. Can you run the same kind of defrag programs on them?
    4. Any recommendations for Maxtor, WD, etc?

    Thanks!

Well, even USB 2.0 (not to mention 1.1) is signifigantly slower than the PCI bus so don't expect top notch performance.

I bought a 120 GB, 5400 RPM(I know, should have gone for 7200) USB 2.0 Maxtor Hard Drive and I love it. I haven't tried to run defrag programs on it, but I run some games off it and also it stores all my downloads. I think I still have about 80 gigs of space left, but with a new digital camcorder in the works, that space will probably fade fast. I would suggest Maxtor because as you can see I like mine. Also, some of the newer ones have a nifty One Touch Backup button on the front.

umm, i may be missing something at this site, but these prices look REALLY good. Maybe you have to assemble it yourself, I don't know.http://www.coolerexpress.com/hd-ma-720u2.html
