Bootable USB Storage

I have been reading about the possibility of booting a PC from a USB drive. I am particularly interested in using a USB hard disk or a storage device that could hold an OS like Windows 2000.

Is anybody doing this? And if so what are the requirements to implement this setup?

i'm not doing it, but you need a motherboard that has a bios that supports booting from usb. just boot into your bios and check to see if there is an option about booting from usb. if so, then you should be able to select whatever drive is present on one of your usb ports to be the primary boot device...

I have an ASUS P4PE motherboard and USB boot device is not an option. There are options for zip drive, ls120, ATAPI MO, network card, scsi - no USB.

Are there any boards that definitely have this USB option?

i believe that my intel d845gbv has the usb boot option. first, check for a bios update. sometimes they might add features such as that on an update... it's worth a shot... of course my intel board supports no overclocking...
