    quick reply needed please

Just purchased a Thermaltake heatsink and fan
(volcano 7+) And Im a bit confused. Im installing an XP 2200 my question is this.
There are three cables coming off of the unit, One obviously being power supply the others are a small three holed brown connector with one yellow cable going into it, and another small three holed white connector with a yellow cable going into it. Am I right in thinking these are for monitoring heat? if so as I can set this up in the soft menu Abit KX7-333 mobo I assume i do not need to connect them to anything.(or maybe I do).

In the mobo manual the instructions read like this,Attach the connector from the processor fan to the header named fan1 or fan 2. Attach the connector from the power fan or back chassis fan to fan3 header, and attach the connector from northbridge fan to header fan5.

Two more questions, at which speed do I need to set the control which is attached to the fan at? HIGH, MEDIUM, SLOW.

And last of all what would be the reccomended setting for the motherboard temprature to be set at, I will not be overclocking so the choice would be.

    Temp warning 50/53/56/60 centigarade
    CPU shutdown 60/65/70/75 centigrade.
Im just surprised there werent any instructions with the heatsink other than how to install the unit itself.

So Im just off to have a long soak in the bath and hopefully I might get an easy solution to me problem.

    cheers

the yellow is your speed monitoring lead, plugs into MOBO.

Have to look at the Heatsink to tell you the rest.

    be back in a few.

OK, Yellow lead connects to motherboard Fan header 1 so the motherboard can tell you at what spped the fan is turning. The other set of leads (black and red) go to a lead off the power supply.

Recommend setting the fan to at least MED. maybe HIGH depending on the airflow you get through the case. If you have a couple of case fans then I'd say MED is fine, If only one case fan, then you may need to go to high.

As far as warning temps.... I wouldnt like to see higher than 50c, as a warning. Shut off.... I really couldnt say, I dont know what the XPs are rated for... seems to me I remember like 70c... but I wouldnt quote that. I would set it to shut down at 60c.

And remeber if it shuts down if you set it to 60c, then go and turn that CPU fan up a notch...
