    or if anybody has a link to a review/compare of these 2. I went to http://www.storagereview.com but that just confused me more as they used 1 set of reviesws for 1 drive and another set for the other ???????????

    2MB versions or 8MB? the WD800JB is the 8MB version, the WD800BB is the 2MB, while the DM+9 is available in both.

    the JB should have a 3yr warranty vs 1yr for all others. the maxtor will have better access time; the WD should run cooler.

    i'd go for the west dig jb, if only for the 3yr warranty - those things are worth their weight.

    trout are very valuable and immensely powerful
    keep away from the trout

    Both deltree_windows and ris brought up excellent points.
    Larger cache and warranty would be preferable.

    However, if specifications are the same, I vote for the Maxtor.

    if the WD you are looking at doesnt have the 3-year warranty, get the maxtor. i have seen the 8MB maxtor DM+9 outperform the older 8MB WD800JB in both access time and max throughput. the 2MB maxtor should have the same advantages over the 2MB WD, but i couldnt verify this on my drive because of how it is mounted in the OS.
