Geforce ti4200 128 OR Raedon 9500 pro 128?

Atm I have an athlon xp 2000, win XP, 256 megs 2100 ram (getting another 256), Asus A7V333 mobo, and a geforce 2 mx 200 32 meg card. I was looking at the Geforce 4 ti4200 from asus (comes with morrowind, weeee!) or an ATI 9500 pro. I play games alot so performance is key. Best buy has the 9500 pro for 200 with mail in rebate, plus I have a gift cert. so money is not a big deal. Will I have any problems going from a geforce to ATI concerning drivers? Would it be better to go with the geforce for more stable drivers? Thoughts , comments?

I would get the 9500 Pro. Remember to remove the nVidia drivers before installing the 9500 Pro.

9500 pro. If you get a retail you could possibly get the 3ns ram like I got that does 350+MHz. I don't think with all the goodies turned on a OC'd ti4200 could compete with the 9500 pro OC'd. Especially if it is clocked as high as mine.

You will need to remove all of the invidia drivers though as has been said otherwise you may end up with glitches and non functionality.

or even a better monitor for about $40 to be better than 640x480?

Radeon 9500 Pro definately

Texture detail is top-notch and it supports DX9 (unlike the Ti4200).

When you remove the nVidia drivers, use Detonator Destroyer as it *says* it can remove all registry traces. Although, I couldn't get it to work under Win2000

I just picked up the 9500 pro for 180 with a $20 mail in rebate So before I install it, just go under the display window and uninstall my old drivers?

Just installed the card and OMFG is it fast! I never thought Command and Conquer Generals was so fast and pretty Top notch card!

Hey I used to play the original Comand and Conquer on a Cyrix MII PR200 with Windows95 (it was actually a DOS based game, but could run under Windows with a bit of work). It was cool. I guess they have added some better (likely 3D) graphics since then.

Good choice. I think ATI is going to pummle nVidia for at least the rest of the year. The RV350 core (according to The Inquirer) will perform very slightly faster than the Radeon 9500 Pro as it will be spec'd like the Radeon 9500 (non pro) with a 128bit bus, but will be clocked at 350MHz. It will come with 64 or 128MB and be very cheap to build since it has a cut down core from the R300, is manufactured at .13 micron, is pin compatable with the R200 cores (making it very easy for card manufacturers to impliment), and has very reduced power consumption (requiring no external power connector and very limited cooling). This thing might actually be targetted to phase out the Radeon 8500, 9000, and 9100 (and 9200) in tyhe near future. It will likely retail for about $150 for the 64MB version and around $180 for the 128MB version. Reports are the core can run much faster, but the memory will likely be the performance factor. This card should by end of year fase out the Radeon 8500, 9000, 9100, 9200, 9500, and 9500Pro and will put a squeaze on the Radeon 9700 (non pro) for the price. It should sell well and will also make nice inroads into the laptop market with a mobile version of the core. Then there is the R350 and R400.
