what detonator drivers are best for ti 4200? i need some serious help!

right now i have all kinds of drivers...
40.72 came on the installation cd from pny
    42.30 beta
    42.81 beta
    42.86 beta

i ran the 42.86's right off the bat..and all was smooth..
and then installed powerstrip and did some over clocking...(in my sig)..
so then i intsalled unreal 2 last night and it was sooo choppy and some points..so i decided to intall a new driver and remove powerstrip and install rivatuner.
i went to 42.30 driver and installed rivatuner and overclocked the same speed as with powerstrip. all hell broke loose and unreal freezes at this certain point and i have to reset the power. what do i do here guys? this is freakin me out.
3dmark03 runs like crap to...battle of proxycon is awful and the trol's lair one is horrible choppy...both running at a sustained framerate of about 5fps..lol..
what am i doing wrong here?
thanks in advance for all your help!

Well, for a start you need to isolate whether this really is a driver problem or an overclocking issue. I knwo you probably reckon your card is 100% stable at those speeds but different applications tax cards very differently. I remember when UT2003 first hit the scene and people said that it completely destroyed their GPU overclocks, what could previously loop 3DMark2001 all day was now having fits.

So, clock your card back down to normal specs then try again, if you are still getting lockups then play with the drivers. And when you uninstall them use something like Detonator destroyer or Regcleaner to make sure they really are gone before you install anything else. A lot of these problems occur when you have remnants of old driver sets, even from the same company.

As for 3DMark03 running like poo, it will. Your system is crap compared to what it is supposed to look good on. Any other issues will only exacerbate this of course. Finally, what OS are you running?

i think i fixed the problem...

Bennyboy i was running DX9 under XP Pro.

but later this afternoon i did clean intall of xp pro and installed
42.81 beta and left dx9 out. installed powerstrip and went core@280 and mem@580 . everything seems to be running beautifully...i got a 12,235 on 3dmark2001se.

what's 3dmark03 supposed to look good on

Mmmm, DX9 seems to be giving a lot of headaches. Pleased you got it sorted anyway. As for 3DMark03, I think you need real top-end card to get it looking good, and as far as scores go you need a DX9 part so you don't get penalised there (like we all did in 2001SE on the Nature test before we got DX8 cards). Sadly you won't be able to run it now without DX9 installed. If it definitely was a DX9 prob then it is understandable that 3DMark03 was running crap like everything else. I don't know what to suggest other than BIOS flashes for the MB and GeForce. However, on the bright side, your 3DMark2001SE score is very respectable, I only wish I get anywhere near that high with my Ti4200, I'm hanging around 7500 on an Athlon 1.4. I think WinME is holding me back. Time for a change methinks...

I've found that the Detonator 41.09 drivers (not WHQL certified) are brilliant with DX9 on my machine. I'm running Win98 SE and UT2003 runs fantastic at stock speeds!!!

I ran 3DMark03 for the first time last night, and on the Battle of Proxy thingy, I got 1fps almost all of the time!!! lol

I can't believe they made it so straining for older hardware. I guess you would need a 3GHz P4 or XP 2700+ and something like a Radeon 9700PRO for smoothness, but maybe even that will have problems
    Desktop - XP2100 @ 2.4GHz, Abit NF7-S, 1gb DDR500 Crucial Ballistix, 120 + 160gb HDD, Windows XP
    Laptop - Athlon 64 3000, 1gb RAM, 40gb HDD, Radeon Mobility 200, Windows Vista
    Server - P4 1.8GHz, 768mb RAM, 2x 40gb HDDs, Win2k3 Server

The LANBoy's do look to be good cases. I think they also have 2 120mm fans for cooling. This is great if you want to water cool in a small box.

I don't see how the dual 120mm fans help with water-cooling?!?
