    Power surge killed the printer?

    I have an HP 1600 CM printer (networked) hooked up to a UPS. We had a minor power surge earlier and now the printer is dead. No power at all. I've changed the power cord, relocated it and plugged it directly into another socket on another wall and still nothing.

    Is my printer dead?

    sounds so, checked any fuses etc?

    NEVERMIND

    Since I couldn't find an answer anywhere on HP's website...and it seems the printer is deader'n a doorknob (as we Southerners say)...I sent it off to the repair shop.

    Yep, I bit the bullet and sent it off. I know, I'm a wimp. I just don't have the resources or the knowledge to fix it here.

    I'll let you know what they tell me though...in case anyone has the same issue later.

    I'll post the results back when I hear from them.

    You might submit the bill to the UPS maker if the repair shop can confirm a power surge damaged it. Most UPS units come with power surge guarantees of some sort. All of the plugs in a UPS should have surge protection – even the ones that don’t provide power backup. I’m surprised a power surge would fry a printer through a UPS without lightening being involved.
