How to tell CPUs temperature?

I need a program or something that will show the CPUs temperature. I have MSI PC alert 4 and the temp reads 45C at idle. the old version of alert 4 showed the temp at 42C at idle.
Now I know that most likely both of these programs are wrong and not worth using. So what would be good program to show the right temperature?

I'm using a Celeron 1.7 (not OC) with standard Intel fan and a MSI 845E mobo.

When you got your motherboard. you should have gotten an installation Cd there you should find a program that you can install in windows. A real time Cpu Temp meter.
I got a Soltek motherboard and i have a program that came with the install Cd.

I did. I got PC Alert 4 with my MSI mobo. However, I don't think it works right. Because I installed the newer version and it gave me a different reading than the old version. First version gave me an idle of 42C. New version was 45C. So I don't know if either are correct.

When you get two separate readings, which i have come accross a lot after having used several motherboards. I tend to use the Bios readout instead. Then check which version of software you are using then find the closest one which resembles your Bios readout.
The only alternative i can think of that u could do would be to install Temperature node, i think thats what you call it, not quite so sure. That go next to the heatsink or Cpu. Those would be the most accurate readout.

I use motherboard monitor 5, and display the temperatures in my taskbar, as far as i can tell, mbm displays the same temperatures as my bios
