Here the (difficult to find!) Maxtor Acoustic Management Utility, AMSET.EXE. You can use it to almost completely silence hard drive seeks, or virtually half seek time on drives that have "quiet" mode enabled by default. More info here: http://www.adriansrojakpot.com/Speed...t_Store_02.htm
It works on recent drives e.g. DiamondMax 9. I get about 19-20ms random access seek time on my drives in "quiet" mode and sub 14ms in "fast" (as measured by HDTach).

Just a personal observation,
Not particularly impressed with the BenQ DW1650 DVD burners.
BenQ appears to still have quality control issues during manufacturing.
If they are too lazy to stamp the labelling for Master, Cable Select, Slave, so that it is clearly legible,
Not sure what other corners they may have cut.
And what the bleep! is with that burning smell with all those drives?!
Took a look at three different DW1650 models with supposedly three different shipping dates.
"I know nothing."
Cheers.

Benq is just the new name for Acer. Apparently they figure a name change will change thier quality control, or their pr in quality control.
