what's preventing you from getting to the screws on the other side? you should be able to remove both sides of the case and the mobo plate to get in ok.
the other option depends on how many cd/dvd drives you have but a hdd can be placed in a 5 3/4" bay with two u-shaped brackets. i prefer to put mine there for the additional passive cooling it gives me.
trout are freshwater fish and have underwater weapons
trout are very valuable and immensely powerful
keep away from the trout
Those hard drive cadges are removable. There is a lever on the top of both cages. Push it back and slide the cage out. Just remember the cage fits back in all the way to the front, so the hard drive will only use two screws on each side and hang out the end about two inches.

I got my first "good" case on Wednesday.
It's the Antec PlusView 1000AMG so is similar to your case, Alexrunn.
As Todd said, just flick the catch back and remove the bays. And yes, the drives will stick out a bit... not too much of a problem, as long as you don't have a Voodoo 5
Desktop - XP2100 @ 2.4GHz, Abit NF7-S, 1gb DDR500 Crucial Ballistix, 120 + 160gb HDD, Windows XP
Laptop - Athlon 64 3000, 1gb RAM, 40gb HDD, Radeon Mobility 200, Windows Vista
Server - P4 1.8GHz, 768mb RAM, 2x 40gb HDDs, Win2k3 Server
Or possibly a GeForce4 Ti 4600 or GeForceFX 5900 as they are both rather long cards. The Voodoo5 5500 was a rather large card (likely larger than the other two) do to its dual core. Supposadly all the resent Radeon cores are capable of this feature. Imagine a dual cored Radeon 9800 with 512MB DDRII. Of corse it would cost something like $2000 or more, but it would be fun to have.
I have the Antec SX-630 case. It only has one of those drive cages, but it is identical. I also have a Cheiftec clone of the same case. Everything is identical between the two, but the quality of the biuld is not quite up to the standards of Antec and the sheet metal is a bit thinner, but overall it was a great case for half the price of the Antec. A good case goes a long way towards building a quality system.

The drives in the lower cage will stick out farther in the rear due to the cooling fan cage that is in front of that cage. The fan is optional, but the cage causes the drives to mount further towards the rear of the cage....
