My HL/TFC keeps on crashing. Basically the screen freezes and HL pops up with the error message 'net packet send error' and then the whole thing crashes back into XP. Was fine under Win98, but the HL net code doesn't seem to like XP too much.
Any ideas / solutions?
PS. Don't bother trying to quiz me on why I'm playing these old games....the oldies are the best! I just wished they would release Chuckie Egg 2003!

I have win xp on all 12 systems at my cafe, and it plays fine with HL/TFC. Heck, CS is played more than any other game here, and the net code runs fine.
Try reinstalling HL, plus all the HL updates to 1.1.10 and then see what happens. Also, make sure you have ipx protocol under you network settings, though HL will use TCP/IP also.
Could be your modem drivers, have you updated them?? Win XP has had some problems with older drivers that first came out for a lot of hardware, but a year has past so the newest drivers for most hardware should work fine with xP now.
I for one haven't used a modem in about 3 years, so I can't remember exactly what to set. Check out www.counter-strike.net's forum for CS online gaming problems.
