Another "just wondering" question

What exactly do the icons on the left hand side of a thread index mean? Also what does an arrow mean when it is to the left of a thread name?

The icons are arbitrary - you can set them by choosing one just under the subject line when you post.

The down arrow just next to a topic takes you to the oldest post in that thread you haven't seen yet.

Ah, no I didnt mean the ones under the subject line - I meant the ones that are displayed on the far left of the thread index. What do the different "envelope" icons relate to. I guess some mean "hot post" etc etc

There's a key at the bottom of each forum's index page -- if you're using the been-here-before cookie, they indicate whether there are any new posts since your last visit, whether it's a hot topic, or a closed (locked) thread.
