Tweaking the Radeon 8500 (64MB) Retail

    Hi'yall

Are there any real performance gains from tweaking this card? I read somewhere that it is already tweaked to the best level of operation.

I found all the tweaks on this page

    http://www.rage3d.com/radeon/

Did anyone try any of these?

    Which one is the best?

I see u got the epox board in that computer of urs. Have u experienced any problems with the Radeon 8500 and mobo? Cause i got same set up (XP 1600 though) and im forced to downclock my video card to 260/260 with powerstrip to prevent problems. Most people seem to have the same problem (check out rage3d forums and see). This has nothing really to do with ur post but just wondering how that setup is working out for ya

Personally, I like Rage3dTweak. I can't really tell you what kind of performance I gained though, because I never bothered to bench before/after I use this program since I install it right along with the drivers.

    Yes Radical

THe combo is buggy ... I think it is very much related to the temperature of the AGP port and/or interface.

And it is only in selected applications - for example I never had MAX Payne crashes (it only hangs when quitting the game and then I have to reboot)

With NHL 2002 there were frequent freeze-ups - which decreased when reducing the heat (AC'd room , extra fan directed at the card and AGP port) - but there were still crashes.

    Rogue Spear plays fine.
Diablo I and II play fine
    NHL 2000 plays fine

I haven't downclocked my video card (it's the retail version) - I 've just stopped playing the games that cause the freezes.
