PLEASE HELP - Voltage Mod CPU fan?

Hi,

Can anyone remember what the sequence of wires are if I want to underclock my CPU fan from 12v to 7v. No techie language please - just tell me whether red goes to yellow blah blah blah....

Can't for the life of me remember!

Black from the fan goes to the red (5V) of a molex connector. Red from the fan goes to yellow of the molex (12V).

You can wire the yellow lead from the fan to the pin it would normally make contact with on a 3-pin fan header; it will still give an accurate RPM reading.

Hook the red wire on the fan up to the yellow wire from the PSU. Hook the black wire from the fan up to the red wire from the PSU. And that will give you 7v. Good luck!

Sorry guys, I might have slightly misled you.....

I've got one of those small 3 pin connector thingymiggiggy things leading from the CPU fan which connects directly into the motherboard header and not the molex PSU connector.

I have tried reversing the red and black wires and reconnecting into the mobo header but the fan doesn't spin up, the PC gives a few beeps and says "you're fecked pal." Oh yeah, there's a yellow wire as well, which I haven't touched yet.

Would you be kind enough to indulge me again......pleeeeze?

Try this site 7 volt mod. A connector (3 to 4pin) that will allow you to use your cpu fan connector and connect directly to the PSU rather than fan header. this also allows you to revert back if you so desire

Leave the yellow wire from the fan hooked to the 3 pin connector and plug that back into the motherboard so it still finctions as an RPM sensor. Connect the other two wire to the two outside pins on a 4 pin Molix connector (red and black to red and yellow).

You might try getting a Zalman Fan Mate 1 …endpcnoise although they might be hard to find.
