Warcarft 3 Multiplayer?

I just got this and I can't find away to play it over the internet vs my friend without using battle.net. Diablo 2 and Dungeon Siege allow you to enter an IP and connect directly, but I don't see that option. Can this be done? I can't believe they removed this option.

Yea you have to go through battle.net, but it's really not that big of a deal.

Yes I have heard of bnetd, but I haven't checked it out. I read that it was going to get shut down. I'll check it out. Thanks.

Even better, take a look out there for "lancraft".. (For when battlenet is slow/down/etc.)
