LAN gaming, tcp/ip or ipx ?

Most games support both but which protocol is best in terms of speed? Just between my 2 computers networked via a crossover cable.

    Cheers

Just remember, if the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off.

I think most games nowadays only use TCP/IP. So if you can only have one that's the one to use.

I have IPX on my comp for just one game we played at our last LAN party -- it was either Need for Speed 4 or Pod Racer...both are kinda old

Yes sorry, I guess I'm talking about older games. Our computers are getting a bit long in the tooth. Games like Settlers 3, Age of Empires series and other older RTS games all have ipx LAN options.
I recall reading somewhere that ipx is faster than tcp/ip. But tcp/ip is less prone to errors. Does that sound about right?

    Dunno

But you can use either protocol. Whichever one works better for each game.

I have TCP/IP and IPX on this machine. 99% of the time I use TCP/IP though.
