    Good RPG

I'm in the search for one really good Role Playing Game. You know, something that you could get into and just play forever. I remeber the first time I played Final Fantasy 3 on the super nintendo(one LONG hell of a game with a great storyline), a little old school gaming there, but I think you guys get the idea. I recently bought Arcanum:Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura....and I dont think its quite the game I'm looking for.

Can anyone help me out here on the quest for one decent computer RPG???

Get out the pencil, paper, dice and a few freinds. Arcanum is about the best they come.

If you are looking for something in the fantasy genre, try Baldurs Gate 2. Are you looking for online play? I heard Ultima Online was good (don't play it), however, you have to pay to use the damd game. I don't think it has a very strong storyline though.

Definately get Baldurs Gate2: Shadows of Amn, and BG2:Throne of Bhaal. No other rpg even comes close to the complexity and length of this game, and I've played almost every one for pc or any console.

A couple other of really good RPG's for the PC are Planescape:Torment, and Deus Ex (though Deus Ex is also part FPS, but still really immersive)

If you can still find Daggerfall.... lol The sequel to that game, Morrowind looks to be the next big thing for PC RPG's. I can recommend some great Playstation RPG's which can qualify as PC RPG's since you can play them with an emulator. Check out: Chrono Cross, Xenogears, Tactics Ogre (more strategy than RPG), Breath of Fire III&IV, Final Fantasy IX, Persona 1&2, and Front Mission 3. You can also relive Final Fantasy III on your PC too through the glory of console emulation. I can provide more info if requested.

It's not a device, it's a program that "emulates" the original console hardware. Go to www.zophar.net to get every and any emulator you want. Just go to the Windows section on the right of the page and you'll get a listing of every system they have emulators for. For SNES- try ZSNES; NES- FCEUltra or RockNESX; Playstation- ePSXe (make sure to get gfx and sound plugins- Pete's gfx and Eternal SPU are good. Get the plugins at the PSEmu Pro Plugins section on Zophar's main page).

Now you have to find roms to play in the emulators. The roms are the raw binaries of the original game cartrides or CD's. They're only legal to download if you own that particular game. Do a search on Google for the roms you want- I can't give you any sites here.

I also forgot to mention M.A.M.E., which is an arcade emulator that can 2,000 or so arcade games from the mid 70's to today. You can also get that at Zophar's Domain. I recommend getting MAME32 since it has GUI. You'll need roms for this emulator as well.

This is my last post I swear lol! Try Nebula (under the Multiple Arcade Emulators- not MAME section) to play almost any Capcom (Street Fighter 2, Marvel vs. Capcom etc...) and Neo Geo (Samurai Showdown, Fatal Fury) game. Your machine ought to be powerful enough to handle any of these emulators.

I suggest to give Deus Ex a try. It's a really great game (best ever IMHO) with lots of rpg elements.
Also available at a reasonable price by now.

Deus Ex was fantastic. As was it's grandfather (about 1 year earlier) System Shock 2. They're both RPGs -- but from a first person perspective with a sci-fi environment.

For a more traditional RPG check out Planescape Torment. It's one of the deepest most story-rich games ever:

Forgot to mention Gothic, which is also a great game. The storyline- and character-development really draw you in.

ANACHRONOX ---- without a doubt you'll love it. It's a long game and the download is 1 gig.
