how to change movement in Project I.G.I. (move left/right)

just got IGI today, and beyond the lack of "autosave" it's really a nice game.

the only thing I am having trouble with is the orienation with the "move left/right" keys.

its more like "strafe left/right" in other FPS games.

is there anyway to change the movement so it acts like standard FPS games?

Don't you use mouselook? I play the game too, but only use the movement keys forward, backward, strafe right/left...

no I don't use the mouse...but it looks like I have to now.

I just don't like playing with the mouse and KB simultaneously.

usually, I just stick to using the keyboard for all gameplay.

You should seriously give mouse/keyboard combo a go. Its well worth it. I got into it a few years back but i have never looked back. Its well worth it. Heaps easier, once you get the hang of it. It seems really unco, but you'll get used to it.
BTW do you still use the Wolfenstein layout?
Up down left right, Ctrl = fire, Alt = Strafe, Space = Open?
I remember those days well...

I think that you can just set the left and right arrow key as strafe left/right.

I cant stand using the up key for foward movement, like in IGI, and all other fps, i always use right mouse for moving if i can , and set other keys on my left for all other operations, i find this the best, i agree with But-Why, you'll get used to it, and wont regret it, i think using all the keyboard keys without mouse, far to hard lol, maybe just me, yes thats right only has strafe in IGI left/right.

Excuse me for being ignorant, but what is "mouselock?"

Trophy: Mouselook (not mouselock) is where you move the mouse and your aim moves with it. As opposed to just moving side to side, you can move up down left right (only the aim not your person) if you keep looking left, you turn to the left. Thats why the Left and Right buttons become the strafe buttons, as you can turn using the mouse.

I can't stand using the right mouse button to move forward. Thats way wierd, i guess you get used to it though. I save that for secondary fire (UT and the like) or Zoom (IGI and Q3TA).

I think there is a file you can actually edit to change the keys, but i never did it, nor paid much attention at the time that i heard about it. So i don't know what it was. Maybe that was for ONI?? :P

LOL, well i guess thats what ive been used to all along, im really just trying to lessen the amount of times, im using my left fingers on the keyboard, particularly holding down a key, and it looks like yes, i use mouselook, o so, you were just reffering to the mouse/keyboard combo, not using mouse to move, advising Zoom, o ic, well i just dont find using right mouse to move foward, a problem, to me its much less of a problem, than like ive seen, a guy using the arrow key, on the right of the keyboard, with his left hand, and that means bringing his left hand right across his body, na, thats not for me, no no no lol,

I guess once you get used to something its pretty hard to give it up. I know it took a while to get used to the mouse/keyboard combo. And what do you mean using the your left hand on the right of the keyboard, by bringing your hand across the body? Haven't you heard of moving the keyboard??

Just as a matter of interest, what do you use the up arrow for? anything?

Well, for a start, i dont do this, i didnt say, i, use the keyboard this way, i was making refference to this guy i know, bringing his left hand right across his body, over to the far right side of his keyboard, using the arrow/number keys, to move around, you ask, havnt i heard of moving the keyboard to the left, i think i have, i think i read, five chapters in a book once on how to do this , why not move his keyboard across, to the left, i think its far better, if he just asigns the far left keys, a,s,d,w, or whatever, to fit the game, as opposed to using the keys in the fashion that he was.

Sorry to dig this up...but ever since I did move to mouse...I haven't looked back and game play is so much better!
