What kind of video card do I need?

I have a compaq presario 450 mg with 256 meg of RAM. I play links 2001 and it redraws too slow. I have been told that I need a video card. I have looked at a PNY and ATI ranging in price from $49.00 to $129.00. Can anyone tell me a good card for my machine? Do I need a pci card?

Open the computer check for any dark brown +/- 4" long slot (AGP). If there isn't any then the beige ones are PCI and you'll be forced to use a PCI graphic card. Compag usually put ATI cards in their machine you should stick to that (A RADEON LE would be great with some driver tweaks) unfortunatly I think ATI only do AGP for performance card so maybe a GeForce2MX PCI.

There is a PCI version of the Radeon 32MB SDR that exists, but it may be expensive. Do you play other 3D games than Links 2001?

If you aren't going to be playing highly intensive 3D games, then maybe you could buy a Voodoo3 3000 if you can find one for very cheap. I would personally do that, and then save up for a whole new system.

Otherwise, you could find a GeForce2 MX, which will give your system a new lease of life...for a while, you'll be able to play some never games pretty well, but I would have thought it would be quickly outdated.

It all really depends on what you would use your system for.

If you haven't got an AGP slot, make sure you get a PCI card.

The video card that you need is a Geforce2 Pro which I happen to be selling for 170 if youre willing to buy. You do not need a fast computer to use this with, because it doesnt use much of the cpus resources. Email me at highrolla28@yahoo.com if your interested.
