What if you could take the upcoming consoles (PS2,X-Box,Gamecube) and run 3dMark2001/2000 on them? What would your best guess be on their scores?
I know you can't get very accurate guesses but it would be interesting to see what their scores would be if you could actually run the program on them.

fls, I hate consoles but I have to admit, the graphics on the PS2 and X Box are pretty damn good, they'd get more than 5500, that's pants.
Although, imo, the graphics are completely different, even now on the PS2 and stuff, the graphics are good, but consoles have a wierd "flickeryness" about them, also they never seem to be able to do distance well either, probably due to memory
For one thing, console games have low resolution for ****ty TV's. Another is why buy a console game when you can't tweak it, add to it, play it online, or just plain configure it to your tastes? Comparing computer games to console games is like comparing chess to checkers - the only comparison is medium that they inhabit. I have a friend that bought a computer to play games because he liked the stuff I played (Counter Strike, Unreal T, Quake 3) and he saw that the games were cheaper too to boot.
What he didn't plan on was that you have to know how to use a damn computer at first. You can't use a damn joystick or gamepad to play these games. He can't use mouse for **** in the games (an integral part to playing DOH!)and now he wants to sell the system cus its not worth the trouble to learn!!!! Man people are clueless! Sure if you want to just waste time and get your quick fix, play ****ty playstation or something, but if you want total imersion and thinking mans gaming, play computer games, especially online ( After Half-Life and all thier mods, I will never play single player again)Granted you have to know how to configure, patch, update, upgrade, and everything that goes with it, but on the whole computer gaming is where its at for us diehards who like more than mouse-going-after-cheese-kind-of-game, which is what playstation, x-box offer usually. How can you play Tekken3 in 400 res on a playstation and then play Unreal T at 1600 res in Glide 32 bit with all its textures and great game-play, and say "Console games are so much better!" I'm not sure about X-box or any of the new console games, but i have seen them in stores and the graphics are ok for console, but the res has got to be low to play on tv's screens. Try hooking up a playstation2 to a monitor at 1024 res and you'll get a 640+480 window probably! OK, just my venting, because idiot friend wants to give up cus its too hard. I mean, get a clue JEEZ!

Consoles don't need as much power as PCs, because their resolution is lousy- what's TV, 512x328 or sometihg? At any rate, it's less than 640x480, which any Celery with an 8mb Rage card can easily match. I bet if you could ramp the res to 1600x1200, you'd get single digit framerates. Even the newest consoles would give pathetic 3D Marks, just because they don't need to be any more powerful. Of course, they'd probably blow away a similarly powered PC, because the PC has much more overhead, while the console has all that stuff hardwired without the bloatware backend

Im not comparing consoles and pcs gamewise. I too hate consoles. I was just looking at comparing scores of a consoles in their normal performance compared to a PC in its normal performance. Obviously PC's run higher grade quality at normal performance.

Hail to the King Baby!
Two years ago i would have went with a console hands down over a PC for games. Now wit my current setup(gig T-Bird, GTS, 384 megs of PC133, Santa Cruz, cable modem)i will never ever buy another console to play games on. I even skipped buying the PS 2 because i'm so happy with my PC and online gaming that i will never go back. Luckily me Asus V7700 GeForce 2 GTS deluxe has a composite and S-video T.V. out so if i want to see the games on my 32 inch Sony Trinitron i can, and the picture quality is great. But most of the time i just use my trusty ViewSonic 17" flat screen monitor because it rocks. Nothing beats UT at 1024x768 or higher with all details on high and kicking some *** online in a capture the flag game. Best thing is, i can simply pop in a GeForce 3 late this year and i have an X-Box in my PC and will be able to play anything that's on the newest consoles. I'm sticking with PC gaming, in fact i'm buying Half Life this week for $29 and getting the free CS upgrade online and i will dive into that game for a few months, Unreal II is after that.
Ugh, gotta love all you "PC only fanboys", Consoles offer great gaming experiences that you STILL cant get on a PC, RPG's on a console outnumber and outsell PC RPG's by at least 2 to 1, they are better in content, story, etc. (with a few exceptions, one being BG2).
Platform actioners and fighting games NEVER make it good on a PC, cause they take a controller to play correctly or they just wont sell on a PC, name one really decent fighting game for the PC besides the MK series, you cant
The Xbox for your info has resolutions of over 1600x1200 for output, PS2 isnt as good as that, but its definately made for HDTV's and can produce a lot more than 640x480.
I love the games and thats what matters, not what you can do with the system, like tweak it etc. One thing the Consoles will ALWAYS be better in is compatibility, games dont crash, all the games work on every system and you dont have to upgrade for at least 4 years or more (unless you want to), the original Playstation is still selling strong and its been around like 6 years! PC's can never do that!

Umm.. Q3,Unreal,Half life, mdk, mdk2, AVP, Half Life Blue shift, Baldurs gate, B&W, Diablo 1&2, Euro racer, Midtown madness 1&2, Hitman 47, Serious Sam, Dooms, Hexen, X Scooter, Tony Hawks pro, Tribes 1&2, Pod, NFS's, NBA live, FIFA, Colin mcraes Rally, IRC Rallys, Test Drives,PRO Rally 2001, Duke nukem 3D....bla blah blah.. to name a few great PC Games I WANT DOOM 3!!!
Vidfreek, forgot to add that the HDTV will cost you $3500+ for a decent one at best and the HDTV isn't going to handle the 1600x1200 res. So far every game i've ever bought for my PC has ran without a problem.
FWIW, true HDTV is supposed to handle a 16x9 aspect ratio like movie theaters use and I think the displays for this are 1900x1280. There are televisions that claim to handle this and X-box claims to support this resolution. I would be seriously impressed to see a game running at this res. on a TV that could display it.
