I have a lot of friends, and I'm not going to brag now, but I have a lot of computers too, and I plan on some more before the end of the year. Nothing is better than inviting 8 friends, some with pcs, and hooking it up in my hub and playing Unreal Tournement, DiabloII, HalfLife, and Age of Kings.
I don't play sport games, they are totally stupid to me.
Most of my computers have 17" screens, and I can manage 1024x768 on it. Best of all, cool graphics, cool sound, lots of friends, nice games, and loads of dvd movies, who needs a console?
About the playstation controls whatever you call it, my trusty keyboard and mouse will frag you away in any of the above mentioned games. I don't need fancy gimmicks. I have an Intellimouse Explorer, and it rocks while sniping!
Sorry, but when you have a PC you don't need a console.
Yeah...
Playing on a N64 with 4 people on a 42" big screen, drinking alcohol, eating chinese food, pizza, and sour patches from 4 p.m. to 9 a.m. is pretty fun... I admit And that damn hang over in the morning, well, thats no fun.
You should try playing against 3 other people in James Bond: 007 for about 15 hours straight (drunk - I should add)

Hmmnnn....i just gave a slew of reasons to have a console and you only addressed a couple of them.
Let's see what you said.
32" screen at about 640x480 at 60Hz, sounds entreating
Yes, much better than getting 4-5 crowded around a desk to look at a 19".

Cost of one console vs. 8 PCs = good reason to think about a console.

I have an Intellimouse Explorer too. It really sucks for games like heavy Metal F.A.K.K., driving games, snowboarding games, etc. If you limit yourself to FPS and RTS games you should be alright with the mouse/keyboard, but a keyboard was made for typing a gamepad for gaming.
And Gigahert I've played many multiplayer rounds of GoldenEye and Turok on the N64, that's good fun.
While not wanting to get drawn into this topic again, I'm using an Intellimouse Explorer in FAAK 2 and it works fine for me.
To sum up if you are on a budget get a console. If you can afford to keep up with the significant cost of PC gaming, then you can also have a console if you want. I don't I know (after playing with friends consoles), It would end up gathering dust in the corner after a week.

i don't know why the point is missed completely. If you are really into gaming you need BOTH. If you can afford the significant cost of keeping up with BOTH.
and it's certainly not the Intellimouse that's the problem, it's that you are certainly at an advantage using a gamepad in the game. Handicapped without one.
This is the best one I've found, but it doesn't compare to a Playstation controller.
You are missing my point, that IF you want you CAN have both but it is a personnel preferance. You don't NEED both if you don't want both (but console is usually the easiest, cheapest option). What is the point of me having a console that just gathers dust. I got nothing against consoles but their biggest defence is usually put up by people whos PC's suck .
As for game pads I cannot get on with them at all, (especially the Playstation one), but that is probably due to the fact that I have been using only keyboard / then Keyboard / mouse for the last 15 plus years, and again MY personnel choice. I would be seriouslly handicapped if I tried to use one.
As it is the most popular, I would have thought someone would have made a PC interface for a sony controller??
Why do you want 4-5 people around a desk looking at a 19"? Give each guy his/her own PC!! I realize if you are on budget a concole is an option, but I still rather have a celery and monitor than a box and a tv. Yes, I only play FPS, RTS, turn based strategy, rpg, mmorpg (mass multiplayer online rpg) like everquest, space sims, and thats all. i don't play sport games or racing games or idiotic puch his nose 400 times games.
Lets put it this way, which would you rather have for a night. There is a price difference, yes, but which would you rather do?
(1) 8 PCs on LAN, 17"+ monitors, decent video cards, sound cards, Unreal Tournament, Q3 for you Q3 lovers, Starcraft, Age of Kings, Deus Ex, Baldur's Gate, Icewindale, HalfLife+mods like CounterStrike and TFC, etc.
(2) Console, big TV like 47", your fav games, you fav controls, etc.
I prefer option 1. If all my friend's bring their computers I just hook them up and we party all night.
If you think the Intellimouse sucks, your loss. It is an amazing mouse, excellent for all of the above mentioned games.
[quote[You don't NEED both if you don't want both[/quote]
You really don't NEED to play games at all, but if your a hardcore gamer you would have both.
Bladerunner - fire up a racing game and race with your keyboard, now try it with a gamepad. Simple enough way to see the advantage right off.
but their biggest defence is usually put up by people whos PC's suck
My computer can play any game out. I think the biggest defence of not being into consoles at all would come from those who don't have any freinds or any that want to come over and hang out.
Give each guy his/her own PC!!
Mmmmnnn...yeah right, is that actually supposed to be an arguement against consoles or something. Can you imagine that in an ad "Hey, instead of buying that $200 console to entertain at home for the low low price of $6000 you can have 6-8 PCs cluttering up your house. Pick up chicks by showing off your home LAN!"
And what the hell do you have against sports, racing, and fighting games?
Sports games are a great mix of action and strategy, racing games....well why would I have to defend that?, and you must be thinking about PC fighting games. Games like Tekken and Soul Calibur are brilliant mixes of reflexes strategy and timing, unless you don't bother learning the controls.
If you think the Intellimouse sucks
Intellimouse doesn't suck, any mouse sucks for certain types of games.
which would you rather have for a night
8 PCs or a console? I'm sure alot of people make that buying decision everyday, but that's not the point. If I could only have one I would keep my PC, I'm saying there are plenty of reasons to own a console as well.

I sort of agreed with flavor flavio. Sport and fighting games are the best for console. Even the graphics are better. Don't forget console run on RISC processors and their RAM is faster than PC's, but nothing beats multiplayer games then pc networking. So much advantages is using a pc than console.
You know I thought people were going to hammer me but I am glad there are some people who came to their senses.
I do own a PSX and I laugh when all my friends say they are going to wait and save their money for a PSX2 it is a waste. I do like consoles but they will never compare to a computer.,never
yes I admit a good football game or something on the psx is good when you have your friends over but still a TV will never have the graphics capability of a Computer monitor. yes playing on a 60" TV is nice.....

Just think WITHOUT the PC there would never be a Playstation (1-2)..Your choice.!
I say the PC is and always will be the best. You can chose your Hardware configurations yourself.. On the Plastation the only thing you can do is Vegatate infront of your TV. The computer you can Surf the internet and write long and boring discution messages like im doing... Who CARES wich is better. You buy what you like, You'll lose your money to the fat man in the Executive Chair of that company anyway.
why you all still comparing console vs pc..
they are total different market..
not everybody have $1000 or above to spend in a expensive computer n' more hardware, videocard, everything n' all **** to make your games run smoothly
PC: programs, work, games, movies, music..
yes i know.. it can do all
but
console: means no OS crashing, no drivers problems, graphics is not everything.. a good game is, but console games have good graphics too n' 5 years to meet a superiror console for more fun. kids like consoles too
i have both PC n' N64
what pc can do that my n64 can, it's to play mario kart64 with two frineds in battle mode
so.. it's your choice to buy a console only if you have see it in action n' like it or you see a game that u like n' will not get it in pc or another console system..
pc: everytime new hardware, OS n' killer games needing more power...
so should be mac vs pc..
should i buy a mac? or a pc?
that would be the really question..
but buy the 2 if you like them n' can afford them
and i have buy consoles since they come.. atari, nes, snes, n64 n' now planning the gamecube
not really playstation fan, i'm not interested in psx games, i already play tekken with bleem!
-------------------------------------
it's simple.. buy what you like
if you don't know what to buy it means that you don't wan't nothing.. save your money till you see what you really wan't
the money will worth if you really like the product
