These are suggestions I have seen from other folks, who for some reason or another didnt end up posting them in here.
# 1 Although it is no biggie.. the feature on some message boards that shows how many users are logged on is kinda neat. Is there any way to turn that feature on at HWC?
# 2 About old user names... lots of folks here did not get there first choice of user name.. because the one they wanted was already taken. There are two recent threads about this.. asking if anyone has ever seen the user name they wanted posting. In a lot of cases the user name is taken by someone who hasnt posted for over a year.. or came in 8 months ago with one support problem and never came back.
I have an idea about this.... but I dont know if its possable.
Can we delete user names that havent posted for over.. for example... 1 year or more? Can this be done by searching for dates members have posted? Or would each and every single user name have to be gone through to find out? Also.. if someone did change user names.. its a good posability that they would want there old posts and senority to carry over to the new name, especially if they have a lot of posts and time....is all this possable? Or.. possable, but to time consuming?
# 3 How about a live chatroom? I think it would take a while to catch on.. but once it cought on it would probably be very popular.
This suggestion was brought up often at one time.
Okay members.. what do you think of these ideas?? Input would help HWC know if these ideas are important to you or not.
Okay Jeff, Mike,
I guess I laid a whopper on you guys this time huh?
The user name thing is a great idea because people sometimes sign up in a hurry and mis-read something and would change it if they could and still retain thier posts etc.
Or like you said...if someone signed up for one problem and left and had a name someone would really like it's not fair that they not get the opportunity to have it.
For some reason when I signed up I thought it was five characters or more or I would have signed up as just "Greg". And with my small monitor at the time I guess the cap-lock was on so...the rest is history.
"GREGORY" is a bit stuffy sounding but since it's not a big deal I won't change now.
I like the idea of a chat room, but then again, the message boards pretty much serve that purpose. In addition I think I stopped going into chat rooms simply becuase of their immediate inaness. You know, people just babbling to be heard? With the message board, people get two things:
A: time to think before they write
B: time for other people to think about what they've written.
When you're about to post something that will be hanging around for awhile you tend to be more thoughtfull about what you're going to say.
In addition I doubt and chat room would be able to support some of the marathon posts of specs and such from some of our more wordy members heh heh
#1 - This isn't possible because users don't "log in" once on this board, they enter their username and password each time they post, so that number would be impossible to calculate...
#2 - I will research this further...If anyone has a new name and wants their old info back, email me and I'll look into making that happen...
#3 - I think the live chatroom idea is rather pointless considering this is already pretty live, and a "live chatroom" which just take up cpu....If this idea does get enough support I will look into making it happen though...
Thanks for your ideas...

rich i agree with all except the chatroom i'd rather gain my member status helping people than chatting unless those posts wouldn't count on member status then i wouldn't care.
mike,
can i have the name Coldfusion cos that dude had definately gone away.
this is just an idea so i wont be to dissapointed if however i dont get it.
any help?
The chat idea is a good one but I think the forums would lose their appeal if a chat room was introduced. If there was a chat room then Alot of people would just be chatting about crap anyway, I dont think we should have one, this way the site stays professionsl.
