    RePost: WinXP / RAID troubles

First of all this has been posted in the general forum but got no replies...I figured since the hardware in question (Iwill KK266-R specifically) has ties in the overclocking community one or more of you may be able to help me or point me in the direction of where I can possibly be hellped. Anyway here is my origional post:

    ************************************

Hey all I got a wierd problem. I recently noticed my newely updated system now running WinXP (full format and reinstall not upgrade) is having some raid troubles. The drives perform flawlessly from a lack of errors stand point. And though they seem plenty fast, they benchmark quite slow for a raid aray in pcmark2k2 and sandra. Sandra puts them almost exactly on par with a single 7200rpm drive ata100. When I use to run win98 they were shown as being on par with sandra's 7200rpm ata100 raid0 system. I really don't understand what the heck the problem is. When I installed XP I used the most recent Raid drivers from Iwill's site for the the board (these drivers are still the most recent). I really can't figure out what's wrong with this dam system. The funny thing is I can't find the American Megatrends Raid drivers in my Device Manager. There is an AMI MEGAide scsi device in the "disk drives section" and an scsi/raid host controler in the scsi and raid section, but neither of these show drivers by AMI...they are both XP drivers. Anyway I just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas. I didn't change the array from when I had it running in 98. It's just using NTFS now instead of FAT32, and the stripe size has remained at 64.

Did you install the RAID drivers during XP set up? There is a spot in the beginning that ask you to "hit F6 if you need to install a 3rd party SCSI or RAID driver..." which is where you need to install at. If you wait until WinXP is installed and then run the driver set up, things don't always work right......

Unfortunately, WinXP doesn't seem to play well with RAID right now in my experiences.

Check my thread here for some other things to look for..... http://discussions.hardwarecentral.c...ML/017882.html

    Hope something here helps!

Yup forgot to mention that I did set that up correctly with the new XP drivers from the Iwill site. To my knowledge if you don't use those drivers during setup XP won't be able to locate the drive. Anyway somethings buggy with this computer. For some reason it will just like insert text into places (like in this post). These things are totally random and bug the **** out of me. Anyway enough complaining...I need to learn Linux anyway. I just want to figure this raid thing out. In the Computer Profiles where you can convert the drive to a dynamic drive there is a system of color coded labeling...one of the colors represents a one of the colors represents a striped array, mine isn't that color...go figure
